Star power in Boötes – Astronomy Now

Arcturus (alpha Boötis) is the brightest star north of the celestial equator and only Sirius outshines it from UK shores. Dominating the short, late-spring nights is Arcturus, the brightest star of the northern hemisphere sky and the sentinel of spring. It’s the brilliant leader of the constellation of Boötes, the Herdsman, or Bear Keeper, an area of the night sky that’s bereft of bright deep-sky objects, including no Messier-designated targets. Don’t you think then that it’s rather fitting that otherwise uninspiring Boötes has been handed the distinct honour of hosting Arcturus, as well as several superb double stars, including the beautifully formed and named Pulcherrima (Izar, epsilon Boötis).  Arrive at Arcturus Arcturus is a magnificent naked eye star, shining at magnitude –0.04 – o...

‘The Acolyte’ Cast and Crew on That Iconic ‘Star Wars’ Line, Character Influences, Fight Choreography, and More

Following the release of yesterday’s two-episode premiere of The Acolyte, cast and crew sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about their characters and some of the surprising or perhaps not so surprising dialogue elements in the first two episodes. If it wasn’t already clear to fans that showrunner Leslye Headland is a major Star Wars fan herself, it’s abundantly clear after watching the first couple episodes, which include all sorts of homages to the films from an “opening crawl-like” initial set up to wipe transitions and a thematic score at times very similar to John Williams’ music, just to name a few. Regarding the dialogue, she also included none other than the famous “I have a bad feeling about this” line, and apparently, had to fight quite a bite to keep it in the show. Sh...

A joint team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen supported by Space Force Guardians launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with one re-entry vehicle June 4 at 12:56 a.m. Pacific Time from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. This test launch is part of routine and periodic activities intended to demonstrate that the United States’ nuclear deterrent is safe, secure, reliable and effective to deter 21st century threats and reassure our allies. Such tests have occurred over 300 times before, and this test is not the result of current world events.  “Our Strikers and our nuclear mission are the bedrock of our nation’s defense and international security,” said Gen. Thomas A. Bus...
