Painting the Growing Season in the Maize Triangle

Along the Vetrivier (Vet River) in South Africa, a patchwork of circular and rectangular fields spreads across what is otherwise a semi-arid part of the Free State province. The water brings life to an array of crops, contributing to the agricultural productivity of the wider Maize Triangle. The agricultural area shown in this image lies about 110 kilometers (70 miles) north of Bloemfontein. The scene is reminiscent of a modern abstract painting. Colorful circles mingle with straight-edged fields in combinations of red, green, and blue. But each color carries physical meaning, providing clues about crop types and revealing how they changed over the course of the Southern Hemisphere’s growing season. Data for the visualization were acquired by the NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Apert...

Second Tranche of UAP, UFO Files and Videos Released by Dept. of War

"... the tranche expands the public archive with videos, audio files, PDFs, and historical records that stretch the story of unexplained aerial phenomena deeper into the government’s own memory...."      The second release of UAP records from the so-called War Department lands with less fanfare than the first, but arguably with more substance. Published May 22, 2026 through the PURSUE portal, the tranche expands the public archive with ByThe UFO Chronicles5-27-26 videos, audio files, PDFs, and historical records that stretch the story of unexplained aerial phenomena deeper into the government’s own memory. If the first release established that the files were real, the second makes clear that the record is broader, messier, and more persistent than many expected. This time, the...

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’: Pedro Pascal Reveals Full 50-Second Clip on ‘Good Morning America’

Pedro Pascal appeared on Good Morning America earlier today, and he arrived with a new 50-second clip from The Mandalorian and Grogu before going into detail about the process of making a new Star Wars movie. The movie is just 10 days away from hitting theaters. During his time on GMA, Pascal talked about making the jump from the small screen to the big screen, and how he’d hoped that it could happen one day: “It’s a big screen experience. There was something about being a part of Star Wars in a streaming experience that I knew was gonna break the wheel, and provide that experience at home for people. [Getting to] experience these movies on the big screen, that was my secret wish from the beginning. I love that [The Mandalorian] had beautiful seasons for people to see at home, but now, ...

NASA — What’s Hiding in the Emptiest Parts of Space?

ALTThis artist’s impression pinpoints many cosmic voids –– relatively empty bubbles of space. The universe is home to trillions of galaxies, each chock full of smaller cosmic objects like stars and planets. Since galaxies gravitate together in a web-like pattern, there are also immense open spaces called cosmic voids in between. In those growing, gloomy places, dark energy dominates.ALTGalaxies in this animation are structured a bit like a Hoberman sphere (a lattice-like toy ball that expands and collapses), growing farther apart as the universe expands.Zoomed out maps of the universe show that galaxies often cluster together in bright city-like regions. Each cosmic metropolis is connected to others by interstate highways – vast filaments of dark matter, gas, and dust, along which additiona...
