NASA — Love Letters from Space

ALTLove is in the air, and it’s out in space too! The universe is full of amazing chemistry, cosmic couples held together by gravitational attraction, and stars pulsing like beating hearts.Celestial objects send out messages we can detect if we know how to listen for them. Our upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will help us scour the skies for all kinds of star-crossed signals.ALTCelestial Conversation HeartsCommunication is key for any relationship – including our relationship with space. Different telescopes are tuned to pick up different messages from across the universe, and combining them helps us learn even more. Roman is designed to see some visible light – the type of light our eyes can see, featured in the photo above from a ground-based telescope – in addition to longer w...

Volcano Researcher Ally Peccia – State of the Planet

Ally Peccia, a fourth year Ph.D. candidate at Columbia’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, studies the origins of volcanic gases and the interactions between volcanoes and the climate. Peccia has also worked to integrate her passions for science and art through unique initiatives, including creating a “Field Guide” with scientists at the Metropolitan Museum of Art focused on volcano-related works and helping to organize the “Research as Art” event at Lamont this past fall. In her own ceramics practice, Peccia often incorporates volcanic themes and materials. In the Q&A below, Peccia reflects on her lifelong love of learning, the mentors who inspired her studies and the importance of fixing the “leaky pipeline” to leadership for women scientists. Jude Law Reveals Jod Na Nawood Had Never Used a Lightsaber Before Events of ‘Skeleton Crew’

Jude Law made a surprise appearance at MegaCon 2025 for the event’s Skeleton Crew panel. While in attendance, he revealed not only that Jod Na Nawood had never used a lightsaber before the events of the show, but that he also decided not to practice fighting with a lightsaber before filming. Via Screen Rant, Jude revealed that he and the showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford “kinda liked the idea that he had zero lightsaber experience”. Screen Rant points out that the actor has experience wielding swords from past projects, but for Skeleton Crew he essentially did no prep whatsoever when it came to handling a lightsaber. That approach paid off, as Jod often did look a bit awkward when wielding a lightsaber. His decision was likely helped by the fact that Jod never actually uses the...
