Update Sept. 8, 9:30 p.m. EDT: SpaceX scrubbed the launch attempt, targeting Tuesday, Sept. 9. An Indonesian company is looking to improve its space-based communications service with a state-of-the-art Boeing-built satellite bound for geostationary orbit. The spacecraft comes from Satelit Nusantara Lima (SNL), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s first private satellite company, Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN). The satellite itself is called Nusantara Lima or N5 for short. The name is derived from the Old Javanese language words nūsa, “island”, and antara “outer.” Lima, meanwhile, means “five” in Indonesian. SpaceX scrubbed a launch att...

Quantum router could speed up quantum computers

A false colour image of the quantum router circuitMIT SQUILL foundry Quantum computers may be able to run useful algorithms more quickly, thanks to a new quantum router that helps data get to the right place faster. Traditional computers avoid becoming slow when faced with a complicated program in part by using random access memory (RAM) to temporarily store some information. The component key to building RAM’S quantum counterpart, QRAM, is a router. This isn’t the router that directs your internet queries to the right IP address, but rather an internal router that directs informational traffic inside a computer. Connie Miao at Stanford University in California and her colleagues have now built such a device. “The project was motivated by algorithms that use QRAM....

Ultra-wideband radio observations unravel polarization mystery of millisecond pulsar

DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/add728 Within our Milky Way galaxy, in the direction of the constellation Vulpecula, a cosmic "lighthouse" named PSR B1937+21 spins at an astonishing rate of 642 revolutions per second. It emits electromagnetic pulses that rival the precision of atomic clocks. For the first time, a Chinese research team has captured the complete polarization pattern of PSR B1937+21's main pulse and interpulse as they vary with frequenc...

Will Pope Leo XIV Open the Secret Archives? • Latest UFO Sightings

For centuries, the Vatican has stood as one of the most secretive and influential institutions in the world. Beyond its spiritual authority over 1.4 billion Catholics, it is also home to vast archives and scientific endeavors that touch on one of humanity’s most profound mysteries: the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Recent discussions in the media, testimony before the U.S. Congress, and statements from whistleblowers have placed the Vatican at the center of the UFO disclosure debate. A New Pope and Old Questions When Cardinal Robert Post was elected as Pope Leo XIV, observers quickly drew attention to his chosen name. His predecessor in that name, Pope Leo XIII, not only championed social justice but also established the Vatican Observatory in the late 19th century. T...
