With less than a day away from its premiere, Andor season 2 has been certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing, with 55 reviews aggregated, the show currently sits at a 98% positive rating.
Plenty of reviewers and journalists had high praise for the second season of Andor, with many putting it above the first season. Emily Zemler of the Observer remarked on how the story of rising oppression has remnants and ideas that could be related to today:
Another positive review from Kelly Lawler of USA Today said that the show is a beautiful story about “love” and “sacrifice” that can go into dark places — a sentiment shared by many of the cast and crew of Andor:
For comparison, the first season of Andor still stands remarkably high on Rotten Tomatoes with a critic rating of 97%. The “popcornmeter” which gathers ratings from users, sits at 87%. In comparison to other recent Star Wars shows, The Acolyte has a 78% Rotten Tomatoes score. Ahsoka has an 85%. And Obi-Wan Kenobi has an 82% score.
And finally, in comparison to some of April’s other big TV releases, Andor currently sits above The Last of Us season two. And Disney and Marvel’s other big hit lands below as well, as Daredevil: Born Again has a rating of 87%.
To earn a “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a movie or a TV show must receive a positive review from 75% of all gathered ratings, must have a minimum amount of reviews (20 for TV shows), and five of them must come from “Top Critics.” With 48 reviews currently and with a 98% satisfactory rating, the show greatly soars past the eligibility requirements.
Andor season two premieres tomorrow, April 22, on Disney Plus at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET. Each week will debut three new episodes, adding up to a 12-episode season. Be sure to come back after tomorrow’s show, as I’ll have my review of the first three episodes right here on Star Wars News Net.
