The first behind-the-scenes photo from Star Wars: Starfighter has been teased by director Shawn Levy, featuring stars Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray.
The photo in question features the two actors standing on some kind of water craft wearing stained and rough clothing, with Gosling leaning on the craft’s steering controls.
According to Shawn Levy’s Instagram post, the photo was taken somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Sardinia (an island off the coast of Italy). It’s a surprise that the first photo from Star Wars: Starfighter is taking us to an oceanic planet. Most of us likely imagined the first tease of this film would feature Ryan Gosling in the pilot seat of some kind of nimble starfighter, like in the film’s title, but no!
It’s not often we see an ocean planet in Star Wars movies. Mon Cala has featured in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Resistance was mostly set on an ocean world, while Narkina-5 in Andor and Scarif in Rogue One both seemed to be mostly oceans, but it’s not an environment we’ve visited too often in the films of the Skywalker Saga. It’s tempting to assume this scene will take place in Star Wars: Starfighter‘s first act, perhaps soon after the two lead characters first meet.
Notably absent from this image are the rest of the film’s main cast, such as villains Matt Smith and Mia Goth, along with Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman and Daniel Ings. This is only the first image though, so it makes sense to focus on the two main leads, even though the cast announcement also came with a black-and-white photo of the pair of them already.
It surely won’t be long until we get our first looks at the rest of Star Wars: Starfighter‘s cast. We’ll be there to tell you all about it it when we do.
Josh is a huge Star Wars fan, who has spent far too much time wondering if any Star Wars character could defeat Thanos with all the Infinity Stones.
