The Night of a Full Moon

Sometimes our lives are so fast paced we often lose sight of the wonderful things that are right in front of us. Take the moon for example, have you ever just stopped, looked up and wondered about it (it's that big round, white thing in the sky).Okay, so your wonderings may have been triggered by your stomach and slide along the region of "is it really made of Cheese?" Or you may have broken out in a cold sweat while anxiously looking around and wondering what the heck you are doing outside during a full moon (Yes, werewolves do rule the night). This is the time to grab your telescope. With a Refracting telescope or a Reflecting telescope you can find out if the moon is indeed made of cheese, safe from whatever may be howling in the woods.Let Us Get to Know Our MoonThe moon is about 380,000...

Space Shuttle Launch Audio – play LOUD (no music) HD 1080p

Space Shuttle Launch Audio - play LOUD (no music) HD 1080p - - Created through FAIR USE for educational purposes - - STS-121 You need a sound system with a lot of power and a great sub (turned up to house shaking level) to get the right effect of this video. I made this for all the people who dreamed of seeing a launch in person but were never able to make the trip themselves. Using dozens of different video sources and countless audio versions of Shuttle launches I mixed this little clip together to mimic as close an experience to the real thing as I could. I know that the exact sequence of countdown events is somewhat compressed and not time-accurate but I was going more for the 'feel' of a high energy launch experience rather than a technical documentary. Th...

Top 10 NASA clean room photos

Top 10 NASA clean room photos Prior to launch, rovers, space telescopes and more, are housed in clean rooms to prevent damage from being done to these precious payloads. NASA has many clean rooms throughout the country between all its facilities, including its academic and commercial partner facilities. These clean rooms help to keep critical flight components mission ready and safe from destructive contaminants like dust or hair, which can ruin the sensitive instrumentation on multi-million dollar spacecraft. And we developed summer clean room experiences for our Explorer Camps (ages 6-11) and Space Center U (ages 11-18) to mimic these unique laboratories. Step inside some of NASA’s clean rooms with this top 10 photo gallery! Learn more about clean rooms with our Summer Clean Room E...

Clean room trivia: Week 2

Clean room trivia: Week 2 This month’s trivia is all about clean rooms, which play an important role in protecting satellites, spacecraft, and equipment prior to launch. Test your knowledge below and check back next week for more fun spaceflight trivia! What is NASA's nickname for these clean room, one-piece, head-to-toe coveralls? mouse suits bunny suits rabbit suits kangaroo suits Correct! Wrong! The one-piece, head-to-toe coveralls that are a part of standard clean room apparel are known as bunny suits. While NASA has documented that there is no "hard data" behind how the suit got its name, the speculation is that it has to do with the oversized, one-piece suit somewhat resembling a bunny costume. However, it is worth noting that these clean room "bunny suits" d...
