As in Example 2, we start by loading one of the example tables, in this case 10 bright galaxies.
Choose Load Sky Positions / from link to VOTable , then bring up the examples in a new window, and copy
the location of the 10 bright galaxies example. Put that into the box, and click "Get Positions from URL".

|
Here we see the sources, with RA and Dec. Clicking on column headers sorts the table.
| |
 | |
|
Now we do a proximity search with NED, find out what they have on these sources.
Choose NED from the pulldown list, set the proximity to 5 arcsec, and give the new table a name, perhaps "ned".
| |
 | |
|
We see that NED finds a single match for each source, as evidenced by the count of 1 for each.
| |
 | |
|
Use Table Columns / ned to view other columns. Let us pick the
"Number of photometry points" and others.
| |
 | |
|
Now we see that each of the original sources has good photometry in NED; we can see the names
they give and redshifts. We can do proximity searches with other
catalogs (eg SDSS, 2MASS) to bring out other data. We can merge the results of the proximity searches
to get a single federated table.
