‘Fortnite’ To Add ‘Star Wars’ Mini-Game Developer Tools for Fan Creators This Week

Popular online shooter game Fortnite is set to allow creators to build their own games using Star Wars assets, starting as early as tomorrow, March 19th. The developers announced the toolset on their X account, showing a PC monitor flanked by Darth Vader and Han Solo figures before zooming in to show the Unreal Engine editor, which will allow fans to create their own Star Wars content.

This is not the first collaboration between Star Wars and the game, nor is it likely to be the last, given Disney’s large investment in developer Epic Games. Last year the game launched a season of content called ‘Galactic Battle’ for May the 4th. The crossover featured Star Wars themed character skins including Rey and Sith Rey, game modes and a Darth Vader boss which used AI to recreate the voice of the late James Earl Jones. There is no confirmation as to whether this boss, which sparked some controversy, will be available to player developers.

Fortnite already allows fan creators to develop and launch their own mini-game content, with game modes such as Team PvP and Color Switch. Previous themes have been linked to events, with tie-in content linked to The Simpsons and LEGO crossovers. But now, a standing developer mode will allow players the tools to create their own Star Wars content.

Prior to this, players have only been able to access Star Wars weapons, skins, and other design assets during temporary events, such as Galactic Battle. Now, the expansion will allow for community-created Star Wars game modes. The toolset launches March 19th, which means it may be some time before Star Wars content is fully embedded into the game. This move does mean that there will likely be a slew of Star Wars game modes already present when the next crossover event launches around May 4th, giving players and fans plenty of ways to have fun in a galaxy far, far away.
