Getting a certificate for Nesssi services
This is about how to get a certificate to run Nesssi services from a browser.
- Connect to
https://nvoapp1.ncsa.uiuc.edu/protected/welcome
- If you have an NVO account already, put in your username and password on the left and click Login.
- If you do not have an NVO login, follow the registration process on the right. You will be asked
for a valid email, username, and password. You have to pick up an email with a confirmation token. Go back to the first step and use your login.
- Once you have logged in, you can download a certificate. Choose the "1 year" certificate, and put something
into the "Package Key". The same Key will be needed to install the certificate.
- Click on "Download Certificate". Save the file as MyNVOCert.p12 or some such name.
- Start your browser and get to the "Manage Certificates" section and point it to what you just downloaded.
- Internet Explorer: start IE and go to Tools->Internet Options, select the Content tab and click
the button labeled Certificates. Press the Import button and follow the instructions of the wizard.
You will need to put in the password from above.
- For Firefox, go to Firefox->Preferences, Advanced tab, then View Certificates/Your Certificates.
From there press the button Import and follow the wizard.
You will need to put in the password from above.
- For Safari, use Finder to Applications->Utilities->Keychain Access, then import the certificate
from there. You will need to put in the password from above. Safari will then find the certificate.
- Use the "View Certificate" function in your browser, and check the expiry date of the certificate. Hopefully it is far in the future.
- When you use the Nesssi services, you should see the certificate information in the Run Messages section of the interface.
- Other certificates (not from NVO) can be managed in exactly the same way.
Note: What you retrieve is not a certificate, it is a long-lived proxy that will last for a year.
