This Supernova Might Brighten Our Sky In 2022

A supernova is an amazingly rare occurrence. According to our best calculations, such events occur once every 10,000 years in our galaxy (inside globular clusters). Now, astronomers have discovered a binary star system that is likely to collide and explode, resulting in a stunning supernova in the Earth’s sky in 2022. The contact binary is called KIC 9832227.
